Hong Kong is a fantastic, cosmopolitan city, with something spectacular to offer every visitor. For most, the Ngong Ping 360 cable car will be the highlight of their visit to Hong Kong. This 5.7km bi-cable ropeway offers passengers a 25 minute panoramic ride across Hong Kong’s beautiful countryside, mountains and bay.
The journey begins from Tung Chung, crossing Tung Chung Bay to reach the angle station on Airport Island, then turning 60 degrees in the air towards North Lantau. Passengers will experience stunning views of the South China Sea and the rolling grassland slopes of North Lantau Country Park from the cable car, along with a panorama of the Hong Kong International Airport, verdant, mountainous terrain of Lantau Island, Tian Tan Buddha and the 360-degree view of Ngong Ping Plateau.
The Ngong Ping 360 cable car is located in Ngong Ping Village, about 30 minutes from Hong Kong city centre.
This village is a culturally themed village that connects to Ngong Ping Plaza, and is set on a scenic 1.5-hectare site on Lantau Island. The village is adjacent to the Ngong Ping Cable Car Terminal, Hong Kong Big Buddha and Po Lin Monastery, and can easily be assessable from the city center.
The village offers plenty of amenities and facilities including restaurants and toilets.
The Ngong Ping cable car offers several different cabin options to choose from:
- The Standard Cabin.
- The Crystal Cabin, which is equipped with a glass bottom, offering passengers a complete 360 view.
- The Private Cabin.
How to get there
The MRT (train)
From Hong Kong city center, catch the Tung Chung Line to Tung Chung Station.
The Tung Chung Cable Car Terminal is adjacent to MTR’s Tung Chung Station. It is only a two-minute walk from Exit B of the station. The total trip will take 30 minutes.
Bus services are available throughout Hong Kong. The trip takes 30-45 minutes from the city center. Get off at Shun Tung Road and walk 10 – 15 minutes to Tung Chung Cable Car Terminal. From the terminal it is only a 2 minute walk to the entrance to Ngong Village.
There are several different bus numbers and companies that operate to Tung Chung and Shun Tung Road. It’s best to contact the respective bus companies to find out their bus timetable and route.
From the airport take either the S1, S56, S64 and S64X bus to Tung Chung Bus Terminus. The trip takes only 10 minutes.
There are plenty of taxi services that operate from Hong Kong city center to the able car. The trip takes approximately 30 minutes.
From the airport, a taxi ride takes 10 minutes at a cost of around HK$40.
It takes approximately 30 minutes to drive from the city center. There is 24-hour car parking available near the Ngong Ping Tung Chung Terminal for anyone arriving by car.
Travelling From China
It is possible to travel from China to the Npong Ping village. This trip can either be made by MRT or by a shuttle bus coach. The trip time varies from 40 minutes to 80 minutes.
